I wouldn't. I even have a roof deck off my master, and we thought we might have coffee out there on weekends or something, and in 12 years of living here, the only time we've gone on that deck is to either water the planters or watch fireworks. All my cozy spaces are in the living parts of the house.

We have one and I LOVE IT! Use it everyday. So relaxing and private. Best feature of our Master suite. I can make a tea with my little electric tea pot in the master bathroom, bring it into the sitting room, read on my iPad and do some Houzzing, or watch TV or both and never have to venture into the real world! haha! Just so you know, I do have an office in the home and I do most of my design work from there! lol

Guess it depends on the person. Somehow I imagine these areas going largely unused.

  • acm

I imagine them collecting discarded clothes and To Do papers.

  • Chessie

I can see myself using such a space if I were retired. But certainly not now.

  • Cor

I have the space, but I haven't added a seating area. I'd rather enjoy a nice book outside or downstairs on the main floor.

We used to have one in our last house. In 18 years we probably spent about 12 hours total sitting there. But, that's just our lifestyle. I'm respectful of people who use it as a retreat from their daily lives. It's a very personal thing.

  • cliffordhome

We never used the sitting area in our last house. I sleep better in a more enclosed space- I didn't like having a big open bedroom/sitting room.

Bedroom seating areas are a great way to create a moment! They can be beautiful to look at or a great space to unwind and curl up with a good book. See below for a few different ways we've created this space for our clients. Good luck!

  • Maria Privat

Do sit there, but usually only when ill. It that case I need a retreat from the busyness of the family. Am happy to have a place elsewhere, that isn't ruining my back, like the bed does when sitting in it.

  • williann

We don't have a chair in our bedroom, but we have a bench at the end of our bed. I use that all the time while getting dressed, putting on shoes and, sometimes, watch TV. If we had a chair, I would do the same.

  • sharayak

We had a chair and I never sat on it once, but our room is small, cozy, dark and perfect for sleeping, not reading or sitting I guess.

  • melinda1977

I have a settee in the master and do use it some when reading. I also like the ambiance that it adds to the bedroom, but I am most grateful for its use when unloading bed pillows to sleep at night!

  • outshopping422

I have 2 pretty arm chairs and a table in between that we NEVER use...lol But they make me smile when I look at them :)

  • functionthenlook

No we wouldn't use a seating area in the bedroom. I also have a bench at the end of the bed that is used for throwing my robe on before I crawl into bed and putting on sock and shoes.

  • rdy2retire

DH sometimes uses the chair and one of the dogs over to curl up and look out the window.

  • miss lindsey (She/Her)

I do use ours. It was perfect for nursing babies in the middle of the night, and that forced me to keep it tidy and created the habit of use. But then, I'm a reader so anything can become a reading corner fairly easily :)

I have one and use it in lazy Saturday or Sunday mornings to read and drink coffee. Less often in the evening, but my husband goes to bed before me so while he is winding down in bed I may sit and visit then leave while he goes to sleep.

  • Ellen Short

I had one in my previous house and in 17 years, I maybe used it 3 times. It mostly collected dust and clothes.

Hi, Yes we have a beautiful aqua colored chaise in our bedroom which is a great place to read. It also gives the room a pop of color. You have to think about what works best for your lifestyle.

Since our bedrooms are on the second floor, I'd rather sit on the main floor of the house. It has enough chairs & cozy spots, closer to the kitchen, etc.

  • smit2380

We had a seating area in our master in the past. We never used it.

  • momof5x

Ohh yesss, I use the seating area in my room.. can't stand all the time especially when I am sorting out stuff, or doing some work. It is also my reading corner, and when daughter visits she joins me in there too. We have a couple of reading/sitting areas in house in general but this is where you need to relax and have a little peace for a few minutes.

I do!!! We only have one living room right now. The other is an office and playroom, and the room the POs used as a study we need for a bedroom. I hide there.

I don't use my bench for anything but putting on shoes.

  • Kerry Blossom

I have a couch in my bedroom and I love sitting in there..bits like my space. it also acts as a clothes catcher most of the time. oops!!!

  • Lois Huneycutt

I have a space in my bedroom I need to do something with to keep the room from looking like a bowling alley, but I'm pretty sure we would never ever use a seating area. When our kids were little we could have used the area for a place to do nightime parenting, but not now.

I have 2 very nice chairs, a table and a lamp but to be honest I sit there to put on my socks . It was a space that needed something and I had the idea I would sit there nad read but I read in the LR.

  • quirkycabin

We live in an open concept log cabin which is quite small. When I want to have some quiet time, read or watch something other than what my "spousal unit" is into I "retreat" to my little wicker rocking chair with my mothers piano stool for a foot rest. The cats usually accompany me to the bedroom and the three of us enjoy our little reading nook. We use this space often and truly love the privacy. Incidentally, my husband never uses it unless it is for a clothing tree!

  • phuninthesun

We have a sofa, love seat and tv in our master bedroom. We use it all the time.

  • pennydesign

I have one chair. I usually "hide" in there when I need quiet. My mb is on the first floor so maybe that's why it gets used.

I'm guessing those on the second floor get used less (?)

  • woodteam5

I have been contemplating putting a chair set up in the corner of my bedroom for a bit now and I think I just decided a full length mirror would be more useful and less tempting for the hubby (and me) to 'temporarily' put clothing on

  • Belahn

Yes, a chaise with a floor lamp for reading (and falling asleep on while reading!) and to sit and put shoes on. I love it. My cat has also claimed it when I'm not using it.

  • Kathy Yata

I have a 10' long window seat in my bedroom that is used as a step for the dog to jump on my bed that is 3' away and for me to put on shoes and socks. I'm not comfortable lounging there and never have been no matter how many throws and pillows are there.

Thanks so much, everyone! Update: We're leaning toward a chaise. It may not look as great as a pair of stately armchairs, but we're more likely to relax and read with a comfy chaise.

  • drb5075

We have a 10' long bay window in our master bedroom, and use the two armchairs, table and ottoman there regularly. The ottoman is long enough to provide foot rest for both chairs. We find this a lovely place to read, to watch tv, or to escape the noise in the rest of the house, as well as a welcome spot to relax when under the weather.

Two of our homes have been large enough for us to have sitting areas in our master. When our children were small/ younger we'd put them to bed and go down the hall to the back of the house and watch tv. We also had a FP and private patio with French doors so if we got a sitter for a late movie or holiday shopping, kids never knew! We are now empty nesters and have a sofa at the end of the bed With a chair facing to make a conversation area. Again, many times after dinner, we go upstairs to watch Tv and talk/read/ listen to music. Our neighbors recently thought we'd flown the coup as they laughed our house is always dark! Our master is on backside of this house and faces a historical nature reserve and creek - so neighbors in back! I've always loved our extra private spaces!
